The first port of call in maintaining healthy hair is eating the foods which promote healthy hair and nail growth.

If you are experiencing hair loss from the root, seek the advice of your GP who can check for possible Vitamin D deficiency or even thyroid issues.

Keep hair hydrated and moist – hair that lacks moisture is prone to breakage.

Oils such as BIG Nanny’s Hair Oil helps to retain the hair moisture which in turn helps to lessen and stop breakage.

BIG Nanny’s Hair Oil can be used as leave in hair dressing and/or on damp hair to retain moisture. It can also be used as a pre-wash conditioner with amazing effect.

Try cool or tepid water on at least the last rinse, this closes the pores to help reduce hair loss from the root. (I conducted an experience to this effect and the hair loss was phenomenally less during the wash and this is now part of my routine). Cooler water keeps your hair shaft smoother whilst hot water may cause frizziness and ultimately dry hair.

If you have Afro hair, you may sleep with a silk/satin cap/scarf or even use silk/satin pillow slips. This will stop any friction between your hair and the pillow or sheets.

When your hair is in braids, oil your scalp AND your braids often. 6–8 weeks is a long time without treatment. When you take out your braids your hair should be soft, easy to manage and should even have added length which will not break because the hair has been kept moist throughout period of the protective styling. .

ALWAYS oil and water (if required) your hair and scalp BEFORE detangling as this will help to stop breakage.

If you have Afro hair there is no need to wash it until it squeaks. If you run your fingers down your hair and it will not slide easily, once it dries it will be DRY.
